The Dutch owned Wavin has been one of the Halifax-based A-Safe's longest standing customer and one of the first to install the then fledgling company's unique polymer based safety barriers. Wavin provide above and below ground solutions for hot & cold tap water, surface heating and cooling, soil and waste, rainwater management and last mile telecom. Wavin’s end-to-end solutions include consultation, design, implementation and after-sales service. A-Safe has developed and evolved since those early days, maintaining an empathically similar philosophy of customer support; also both companies are experienced players in the plastics industry and understand each other well. Wavin has manufacturing plants in 16 European countries with a strong presence in the growth markets of Central and Eastern Europe. Working closely with municipalities, installers, real estate developers and architects, Wavin has gained an extensive local knowledge throughout Europe.
Wavin is a total solutions provider. By getting involved in a project early on, they help clients identify solutions that achieve the best long term result. This attitude has been reflected in A-Safe's long standing association with Wavin’s aspiring flagship depot in Eddlington, Doncaster.
Paul Rodgers, Project Engineer at Doncaster, has been a fan of A-safe ever since he was made aware of the product by Adrian Clifford, Engineering Manager, who recognised A-safe's safety potential in the early days at a different company; Paul enthused: "We are bringing this depot out of the 60's. Our safety has relied on old fabricated steel barriers which are not up to the job and outdated. A-Safe is the safety barrier of choice, being modern, bright, aesthetically pleasing and up to the job".
Adrian went on to explain: "I was head hunted within Wavin to turn this depot in to the flagship operation the Dutch owners have envisaged. As part of my remit, safety has played an important part in the welfare of our staff, segregating pedestrian traffic from busy and potentially dangerous FLT areas. As each part of the factory and warehouse units are redesigned and refurbished with modern equipment and logistics, A-Safe barrier has always been the safety system of choice to complement this"
Paul continued to explain that all walkways have been delineated by using A-Safe handrail, but where extra protection was required near traffic and FLTs, Pedestrian barriers were installed to ensure the extra safety in case of accidental impact. A-Safe bollards have been used to protect certain door entrances and vital equipment.
With the ultimate responsibility for the site at Eddlington, Adrian concluded: "As the reorganisation work progresses there are still lots of safety work to complete and we risk assess each bit. We do not talk about safety barriers or armco, just - A-Safe. We say 'here’s what we need, what’s in the A-Safe catalogue'"
