A-Safe’s fun film day at their factory premises

As part of the extensive brand awareness programme, A-Safe, the progressive polymer barrier company, has had an advertorial filming day carried out by Collaborative Media at their factory premises in Halifax. A-Safe will be taking part in the ‘Marketing Solutions’ programme as part of an exciting new television series ‘Executive Television’ being launched for broadcasting on the BBC/ITV freesat, Sky digital television networks and via live links from relevant leading websites. The programme aims to analyse the significant role that manufacturing has played in the creation and development of industry, contributing to the growth of the UK economy.  A-Safe has its part to play.

Although the content of the day was carried out with professional efficiency by both the factory staff, displaying their customary manufacturing expertise; the Collaborative film crew; photographer Rod Jackson and the enthusiastic directors of the family owned business, David, James and Luke Smith; the underlying essence was one of fun, being different from the norm, displaying a working harmony and camaraderie designed for success.

Several aspects’ of production, testing and quality control were looked at and recorded.  The extrusion process showed how the strategic barrier tube was produced.  Installation crews demonstrated just how quickly and effectively the A-Safe barrier could be erected.  Various testing methods took place using dynamic and static fixed rigs as well as the traditional and satisfying method of clouting barriers with a FLT and, in directly comparing to the equivalent steel products, demonstrating just how much more effectively superior the polymer barriers are.  The in-house CAD system was exhibited showing how it can be utilised for both product development and sales orders processing.

With his technical hat on Luke said:  "A-Safe is the solution provider for safety protection in and around buildings in manufacturing, warehousing, airports and car-parks along with many other environments where safety is paramount.  Traditionally, materials used for protection are rigid like steel.  The problem with a rigid protection system like a steel 'armc'’ barrier is that once impacted, it will bend and buckle.  The force on a rigid system will be directly passed through the anchor points in the ground.  In other words, the ground and fixings are often compromised or damaged.  A-Safe design flexible systems that absorb impact and move the force through the barrier, resulting in minimal damage to both floor and vehicle."

Portraying the still grounded excellence of British manufacturing, A-Safe demonstrates the industrial excellence that still remains at the heart of Yorkshire’s industrial heritage.  Modern times produce modern products, developed with modern methods and the A-Safe polymer safety barrier system shows just how good smaller industrial manufacturing can become.  A-Safe boasts a burgeoning and impressive Blue Chip client list, spreading rapidly into the Continent and being felt as a global presence as far away as the USA and Australia.

David Smith, the company 'Patriarch', was keen to promote the business in saying:  "We are looking to establish best practice among Companies worldwide and this is already in place with the likes of Coke and Kimberly Clark.  A-Safe is creating its own market place.  Currently a lot of customers buy steel barriers from local maintenance companies or fabricators. There are no set standards and everything is haphazard.  A-Safe is setting standards and a clear way to do things in the safety barrier and protection industry.  We are creating our own market."

James also has very strong and positive views both with A-Safe and wider industry proclaiming:  "I see manufacturing firms in the UK as strong.  Manufacturing firms in the UK has to be good to successfully compete in face of strong global competition. A-Safe provides a unique and innovative finished product and created a whole new niche market place that didn’t exist previously.  A-Safe sells as a complete end-to-end solution provider.  We consult and advise on solutions after carefully finding out our customer’s problems and requirements."

The cheerful enthusiasm, seen on the day about A-Safe, is safely summed up in unison by both James and Luke re-affirming:   "Our aim is to be the number one safety barrier supplier in the world. We also want to bring back the 'Made in England' pride with a passion for quality and innovation. We should all be proud to buy British."
