A-Safe (UK) Limited are a fast-growing business which manufactures polymer safety barriers, and with business booming it has invested £2.5m to buy larger premises in West Yorkshire in response to soaring demand for its products.
A-Safe (UK) Limited has bought a 66,000 sq ft property on Ainleys Industrial Estate in Elland and is looking to move its operations to the site by Easter 2012. As business is proving to be very successful, the new premises are almost double the size of the company’s existing base in Halifax. RBS provided A-Safe with funding to help with the purchase.
Established in 1984 as a plastic extrusion company, A-Safe's ongoing success is down to their unique, patented polymer-based safety barrier system which can be locked into place without the need for screws or adhesives. Conforming to British Safety Standards, the revolutionary products are difficult to damage as they don’t dent, but flex when they are hit and spring back in to shape. They don’t need painting if scratched, and protect floors from expensive damage. Its product range includes traffic and pedestrian barriers, car park barriers, bollards and handrails.
A-Safe’s products are used at several international airports including Gatwick and Manchester and by blue-chip manufacturing businesses all over the world, such as Nestle, Coca Cola, Kimberley Clark and Toyota.
They are also used in RBS' very own processing centres, enabling the bank to minimise worries about cost when there are bumps and accidents. Andrew Bates of RBS said: “We’ve got a range of A-Safe products in two of our sites. With 40 staff on site at any one time, we needed a vital pedestrian segregation barrier in Haydock to protect our staff from fork lift trucks. We’ve also got A-Safe micro barriers installed in Manchester to give us excellent wall protection and prevent damage to a sliding door. We’re very impressed with the A-Safe products.”
In response to a growing demand from European customers, A-Safe established a German subsidiary company last year.
Luke Smith, A-Safe Director, said: “It was clear that we were rapidly approaching full capacity in our existing premises. There was limited space on site to expand the business
and had we remained there it could have hindered our operations. Moving to a much larger
site gives us the capacity to continue growing the business. It also ensures that we can configure our production, assembly and warehouse facilities to operate as efficiently as possible.”
In a cash climate where some businesses are feeling the pinch, A-Safe is a brilliant success story.
Marie Nicholl, Senior Relationship Manager at RBS, said: “A-Safe is a great example of successful British manufacturer which is growing exports. This is thanks to the quality of its products. The move to a larger site will aid the company’s expansion plans and we are very happy to provide financial support to the management team.”
