Tulip is the largest producer of pork in the UK providing a vast choice of products to both the retail and foodservice markets. From fresh pork, bacon and sausages to pies, canned and cooked meats, Tulip pride themselves on creating high quality food from farms in both the UK and Denmark; with our commitment to quality and care exceeding many recognised industry standards. Many of the brands in the group are UK household names like Danepak, Spam, Stagg and Plumrose.
This commitment to quality is reflected in the A-Safe barriers at the Tulip factory in Bodmin in guarding and protecting machinery, racking, door entrances and other equipment throughout the building; covering chiller, warehousing and despatch areas.
Romeu Da Silva, Site Engineer at Bodmin, explained: "Some of the products were made specifically for the purpose we wanted it to achieve; some products have been slightly modified, as was needed, and, some products are still as they were when acquired them from A-Safe. As a general balance of the products, I have to say that the amount of damage on the systems where we installed it was reduced to zero damage, the barriers were capable of taking all the damage onto itself without the need of replacing any of it so far”
Having researched the barrier protection market Tulip came across A-Safe barriers which are very different to the usual steel barriers, which have high on-going maintenance costs. Hit an A-Safe barrier with a vehicle and its inherent strength and structural memory allow them to buckle on collision, dissipating impact forces and then springing back to the original state. There is the not insignificant added bonus of little floor damage when impacted. Naturally, this greatly reduces the need for damage repairs, both to the barrier and to the vehicle itself.
This fact was not lost on Romeu as he observed the difference as: "A massive difference, No comparison, the fact the A-safe barriers absorbed the shock of the impact and still keep the original shape over and over again makes them last longer!!"
Romeu was keen to point out the sustainability of A-Safe’s barriers and went on to say: "Since we installed the A-Safe barrier system there was no need for big A-Safe parts replacement. With any other type of guard that I know of, we would still to have to replace or repair some parts! And the difference in money spent on equipment and machinery where we installed A-Safe was from 10 to1!"
Romeu concluded: "We installed A- Safe products mainly to protect pieces of equipment or machinery and they are vital in keeping the equipment at high standards at all times!”
