WH Smith turns to A-Safe to turn around repair costs on safety

WH Smith’s distribution Centre in Swindon is a busy complex with safety needs in separating staff from motorised fork lift trucks moving pallets of heavy books and magazines around.  Traditionally the company installed metal safety barriers.  However, in doing the job the barriers were causing concern over growing repair and maintenance costs; particularly after sustaining a heavy impact the bolts were being pulled from the floor and the concrete damaged.  Floor, bolts and sections needed to be repaired and/or replaced, which is always a costly business in time, materials and effort.

WH Smith turned to A-Safe for a long term solution in replacing sections of the old metal barriers with low level traffic barriers, ideal in protecting and segregating staff from FLTs.  These have proved phenomenally successful.  7 months on William Kennett, Operations Support Manager had this to say:  “A-Safe traffic barriers are doing exactly what we wanted.  We have not had to carry out any repairs.  It is working 100%”.

A-Safe innovative safety barrier systems can do all that steel can, but on-going maintenance costs are greatly reduced.  And there’s more: hit them with a vehicle and inherent strength and structural memory allow them to buckle on impact, dissipating impact forces and then springing back to the original state.

A-Safe was the ideal solution for WH Smith’s safety needs, the sensible approach to protect your valued staff and valuable plant, vehicles and machinery.
